The Marianist Characteristic of Providing an Integral, Quality Education means that we aren't taught just to be able to take a test or repeat what we read in a book. Our education at Purcell Marian is meant to help us develop skills, attitudes, creativity, knowledge, and understanding that will allow us to be lifelong learners and make a positive impact on the world. This means that our education goes beyond the walls of the classroom.
Throughout my high school education, I have been continuously challenged by my teachers. They taught me to push myself through difficult assignments and to have faith in myself. They helped me build good study habits and experiment with different ways to manage my work. Their approach allowed me to find people to build friendships with, and I was able to learn a lot from my peers as well as my teachers. My teachers have also taught me important lessons in critical thinking. They encouraged me to be creative while exploring various ideas surrounding a topic to get a better understanding and expand on what I learned in class. We all helped each other adapt to the situation, and find ways to handle it. The skills, creativity, and understanding were an integral part of my education and are part of the skill set I have developed here that will help me in my future.
My education at Purcell Marian went beyond the classroom. Being part of the Cavalier Scholars Program allowed me to explore opportunities to learn in the real world. We had hands-on experiences and field trips to help us understand what is happening in our local Cincinnati Community. We learned by seeing and doing. I was able to learn more about the city and the problems it faces. I learned more about what makes Cincinnati so historic and different, along with knowing what ways we can improve the city as well. Working with the other students allowed a community to be built, learning how to communicate together and establish relationships that would work on promoting the common good. Learning to work with others in this community allowed me to gain more ideas on how we can work to promote a better community both at school and out.
The integral, Quality Education I received at Purcell Marian has helped extend my knowledge of the world around me, and the role I can play in it. The world is our canvas and each and every one of us can determine how we paint it
