At Purcell Marian, Formation in Faith means that as a school community, we embrace gospel values, follow Mary’s example as a role model in faith, and meet each student where they are so they can grow in their personal faith and discipleship as we encounter God in ourselves, in others, and in the world around us.

I had a wonderful religion teacher my freshman year who really took the time to explain the Catholic faith and discipleship to me. During this time, I became closer to God, praying and conversing with Him more. Most importantly, I started to trust Him with his reliability and His word. It allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of my faith.

When I was a junior, I received a nomination to go on Kairos with the Seniors. I was hesitant to go because I did not yet understand the significance of the retreat. After talking to some people who encouraged me, I decided to follow Mary’s example of trust in God’s plan and say “yes” to the opportunity to go on this experience. After attending my first Kairos, I was able to understand the meaning and importance behind it, and also begin to reflect on God’s purpose.

I was thrilled when I was given the chance to lead Kairos my senior year. I had such a good experience, and I wanted my peers to have the same. Through all of these experiences, I developed really deep relationships with my classmates, and we all grew closer to God. When I look back at my time here at Purcell Marian, I can see all the ways I was formed in my faith along with my classmates, and I hope I will be able to take what was started here and continue to grow in faith and discipleship as I move forward.
