A Letter From Board Chair Rich Ehemann '83
Dear Purcell Marian Community,
Purcell Marian stands poised to enter its second century of providing an integral and quality Catholic education more outstanding than ever, thanks to the generous support of our alumni, faculty, staff, parents, and donors.
In the past five years, we’ve refined academic excellence at the Castle by introducing the International Baccalaureate Program to private education in Southwest Ohio. Our innovative Careers Initiative Program creates unique collaborative partnerships around the city while inspiring students to uncover their true passions. This past fall saw the opening of Staubach Stadium, a 90-year dream realized as the first on-campus home field for Cavalier Athletics.
Our profound upward trajectory makes it the perfect time to announce a new leadership structure at Purcell Marian High School. The Board of Trustees has unanimously approved the decision to return to a President Plus Principal Leadership Model.
This decision reflects our commitment to the ongoing improvement and success of Purcell Marian. We believe that reinstating this leadership model will enable us to better serve our students, faculty, staff, and the entire Purcell Marian community.
The Board of Trustees is confident that this transition will allow Purcell Marian to build on the growth and momentum we have experienced in recent years. Instituting this governance model now will enable the President to oversee the development of a new Strategic Plan, ensuring the continued success and viability of Purcell Marian High School into its 100th Anniversary Celebration in 2028 and beyond.
Returning to the President Plus Principal Leadership Model frees the Principal to focus entirely on providing our Cavalier students with the best possible academic experience. By dividing responsibilities between a President and a Principal, we can ensure that each aspect of school leadership receives the attention it deserves.
It's important to note that the Archdiocese of Cincinnati recommends the President Plus Principal Model as the best practice for secondary education governance. We believe aligning with this recommendation will further strengthen Purcell Marian's position as a leading institution in Catholic secondary education.
As such, Purcell Marian is thrilled to announce current Assistant Principal Ian Goddard as the Interim Principal of Purcell Marian High School, beginning July 1, 2024. Ian will serve in the Interim Principal role while we conduct a thorough search for our next President. Ian has been at the Castle since 2017, beginning as the Director of the Student Support Services Program and moving into his current role in 2022. He holds a deep understanding of our school’s mission and values, making him well-suited to lead our school community.
As we embark on this exciting new chapter in Purcell Marian's history, I want to express my gratitude to the entire Purcell Marian community again for your continued support and dedication. Together, we will continue to uphold the legacy of excellence that defines Purcell Marian High School.
Sincerely,
Rich Ehemann '83
